Daily Prompt: A Bend in Time

When you’re giddy with excitement, does time speed up? Slow down? Tell us about the experience of anticipation.

I don’t know… when I’m giddy and excited about something, and my brain energy is focused on it, time tends to drag for what feels like an eternity. It starts to speed up when my mind is somewhere else, focusing on other things, like reading or the internet.

Whenever I keep myself busy with writing, the day flies right by. I’d be so occupied I’d assume only 10 to 15 minutes past, when in fact it’s close to an hour or so.

The funny thing is when there’s something you don’t want to do, or a place/event you don’t want to go to, and time flies on. Before you know anything, it’s the night before or the day of; you’re pulling your hair out, cursing under your breath and shooting dirty looks at people, and time drags, making the day longer than it needs to be.

With all that anger, however, comes the end of the event, and you leave or end the day satisfied it’s done and over with. You don’t have to worry about it anymore. Feeling like a Time Lord, you look forward to your day of rest.
